Who are Friends of St Mary’s?
The Friends of St Mary’s (FoSM) is a group founded in 2006 to support the preservation and restoration of the 11th century church building. The Friends of St Mary’s was registered as a Charity in 2007 to continue to preserve the church in order for it to remain a focal point of our town for generations to come.
How does FoSM work?
FoSM has a small committee of volunteers who plan and organise a wide-ranging programme of fund-raising activity to provide money towards the cost of the essential and specialist work needed in the repair and restoration of the church. Members of the committee work with many other people in the community towards this aim. We are always seeking new volunteers to join us.
What sort of activities are arranged?
We aim to cater for everyone, because the church is there for everyone. Throughout the year, we organise events and activities for adults, for children and for all ages: concerts, quiz nights, wine tastings, tower trips and church tours. Specific events held during the Baldock Festival month and at Christmas are very popular, but we are always looking for new suggestions and ideas.
Where does the money go?
All the funds raised are for the preservation and restoration of the church. They are not used for the ministry, the worship, the services or the general running costs of the church.
